Former NBA Champion and Longtime Celtics Executive Announces Retirement

Brad Stevens to Take Over the Role Effective Immediately

Danny Ainge, a key figure in the Boston Celtics' recent success, has stepped down from his role as President of Basketball Operations. Ainge, who helped bring two NBA titles to Boston as a player and another as the team's basketball boss, will be replaced by Brad Stevens, the team's current head coach.

A native of Eugene, Oregon, Ainge led the North Eugene High School basketball team to consecutive AAA state championships before embarking on a successful NBA career. As a guard for the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics, he played a pivotal role in the Celtics' victories in 1984 and 1986.

After retiring as a player, Ainge became a scout for the Celtics before rising to the position of President of Basketball Operations in 2003. Under his leadership, the Celtics won another championship in 2008 and reached the NBA Finals twice more.

Ainge's departure comes after a disappointing season for the Celtics, who finished with a record of 36-36 and missed the playoffs. Stevens, who has been with the Celtics since 2013, has a strong track record of success and is expected to continue building on the team's recent achievements.
